Remediation Consultants: Filling the void between Investigation & Remediation?

How do you find the best way to clean up your contamination issues?

A Phase II site investigation report should tell you as much about site conditions as it can, and it should answer questions posed by the planning conditions (and/or other questions which it was asked to).  If the ‘answer’ is that the site needs to be cleaned up then where do you start?

Many environmental consultants don’t have the experience in remediation required to give you more than an indication of what to expect, although they can be a good place to start especially if they have links in with contractors who can feed the information back to them.  Most people start talking to remediation contractors when they’re looking for a price to carry the works out.

I think the term which fills the void between Phase II and Phase III is a Remediation Consultant.

What should a Remediation Consultant be able to do?

  • Interpret Site Reports
  • Assess Constraints e.g. Access to Contamination, Timeframes for completion.
  • Identify Potential Options
  • Produce an Options Appraisal
