“The decontamination of buildings, infrastructure and open environment exposed to chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear materials.”

Another snappy title produced by the Food and Environment Research Agency which you can download as a PDF here

So what’s it all about and does it concern you…?

Well, if you are responsible for contingency planning…i.e. if the proverbial hits the fan and you’re in charge, then read on.

The guide provides basic info on decontamination and remediation that may be required after a “deliberate” or “accidental” release (read spill or emission).

There’s some great info in the document from developing an initial recovery strategy, and we all need these to comply with our EMS’s, right through to how to manage any waste that arises from your DISASTER and how to return things to normal life, when you could enjoy a nice cuppa without the regulator beating your brow.

Key organisations are identified along with roles and responsibilities and planning and precautionary measures are also highlighted to assist you in being better prepared.

The main thing here is…ARE YOU PREPARED…?
